Week 8 Volleyball Rankings

The top-three teams in class AAAAAAA kept their week 7 spots, with North Gwinnett moving up to the four-spot with wins over Wesleyan, class A-private second-ranked Hebron Christian, Johns Creek and region opponent Mill Creek. South Forsyth advanced two spots to enter the top five thanks to a 3-0 sweep over third-ranked Lambert after losing to the Longhorns earlier in the season. Newnan lost 2-0 to a tough Blessed Trinity squad, and now await their upcoming match against Columbus. An upset win over the Blue Devils would certainly put the Cougars higher in the rankings as they near the end of their regular season.

In class AAAAAA, all top-five teams remain where they stood in week 7. Alpharetta was served its fourth loss of the season after a 2-0 defeat against Briarcrest Christian T.N. They rebounded and did what they do best, defeating Woodstock and class AAAA top dog Blessed Trinity 2-0. Greenbrier switched spots with Creekside following a 2-1 victory over region opponent Lakeside-Evans. Creekside was defeated 2-0 by fourth-ranked Allatoona, making the Grizzlies 4-3 in the region.

Top-ranked McIntosh has yet to give up a single set in nine straight matches. The Chiefs added four wins to their record this past weekend with 2-0 wins over Riverwood, Carrollton, Chamblee and Northside-Columbus. Riverwood saw the biggest climb in the rankings, jumping form the ten-spot to the seventh-ranked team. The Raiders racked up two impressive wins over Whitewater and Starr’s Mill, two teams previously ranked higher than Riverwood. The Raiders will be put to the test again with an upcoming match against class AAA second-ranked Westminster.

St. Pius X takes over as the top-ranked team following strong performances on the court. The Golden Lions defeated fourth-ranked Marist, along with two region wins over North Oconee and Stephens County. Columbus jumped up one spot in the rankings after win over previous top-ranked Blessed Trinity, Westminster and region opponent Shaw. The Marist War Eagles climbed up one spot, switching spots with Northside-Columbus. The Northwest Whitfield Bruins switched spots with LaFayette after defeating the Ramblers 2-1 to pick up their sixth region win of the season.

Pace Academy remains atop of class AAA, defeating Chattahoochee, Wesleyan and Woodward Academy. Calhoun jumped to the five-spot, racking up six wins over the weekend including two region wins over sixth-ranked Sonoraville. Jackson County launched to the eight-spot after beating previous eighth-ranked East Hall 2-0. North Hall’s 2-0 win over East Hall kept the Trojans undefeated in the region and was enough to put them one spot ahead of the Vikings.

The Coosa Eagle’s remain at the top of their class, defeating Model and Armuchee who are both region opponents ranked in the top ten. Jordan advanced yet again, climbing to the five-spot to make way for Rabun County to take over as the sixth-ranked team. Chattooga switched spots with Model after the Indians defeated the Blue Devils 2-1. Second-ranked Pepperell was served a 2-0 loss from unranked Cedartown. The Dragons will look to rebound and end their regular season strong right during their upcoming rematch against Armuchee.

The top four teams in class A-private remain unchanged through the week. First-ranked Mt. Paran Christian defeated region opponent Whitefield Academy 3-0 to remain undefeated in the region. Savannah Christian jumped up one spot and extended an impressive win streak to 19 games with a 2-1 win over Statesboro. Lakeview Academy advanced to the seven-spot after going undefeated through the week. A 2-0 win over Athens Christian keeps the Lions undefeated in their region.
